The exhibition Grotesque Interface: Dark Humor and Metaphor in Cyberculture, a collaborative work by Bahadır Boysal and Erythric, brings together NFT-based GIF artworks that blend grotesque narratives, glitch aesthetics, and digital fantasy with dark humor. Drawing from the Pop Surrealism (Lowbrow Art) tradition, this selection establishes a sarcastic balance between humor and line, aesthetics and ugliness, nostalgia and digital culture, while offering a critical panorama of distorted interfaces in contemporary visual culture. Boysal's sharp, linear language, distilled from the cartoon tradition, and Erythric's digital narrative style, drawn from poetic cinema, create distorted, discontinuous, and unsettling visual narratives within the same universe.

In this visual universe, a uniquely Turkish populist iconography takes shape. A hybrid iconographic texture, ranging from political satire to street aesthetics, from Ottoman miniatures to cartoon grotesques, is integrated with digital distortions, glitch effects, and dark humor. Pop-surrealism here transforms into a narrative strategy woven with distorted reflections of local cultural memory. Grotesque Interface invites the viewer into a digital universe that both amuses and unsettles, that is both familiar and strange—a visual layer where meanings are deconstructed and rewoven, bodies and images are distorted…
